Assessing Trauma in Children and Adolescents

In this training participants will have the opportunity to examine key clinical issues in trauma assessment. Different types of trauma assessments will be presented, reviewed and discussed which will enhance the understanding of the role and application of psychometric measures.

Description

This workshop will offer an opportunity for participants to think through a trauma assessment lens, applicable to their work. Key clinical issues in trauma assessment will be identified. The role of psychometric measures, collateral information, previous diagnoses, and child interviews will be defined. Types of trauma assessments will be presented, reviewed and discussed in term of applicability in various settings. 

Learning Outcomes 

  1. Learn the components of a comprehensive trauma assessment. 
  2. Identify the key clinical issues in trauma assessment. 
  3. Understand the role psychometric measures, collateral information, previous diagnoses, and child interviews play in trauma assessment. 
  4. Differentiate types of trauma assessments and their usefulness in various settings. 
  5. Apply the information provided to current work, regardless of setting. 

Who Should Attend  

This course is recommended for anyone that is involved in the assessment and treatment of trauma in children and adolescents. This may include mental health professionals, psychotherapists, counselors, and social workers. Practitioners at all levels are welcome. 

Course Dates & Format  

There are no scheduled dates for this course at this time, however in-service is available.

This is a 6-hour training. This course consists of two 3-hour interactive virtual sessions using Zoom. 

Instructor:  Geraldine Crisci 

Geraldine Crisci, M.S.W. is a mental health professional with over 30 years experience in the field of trauma. She is a private practitioner who provides assessment and treatment to children, youth and their families. Geraldine primarily works with children who have been resistant to traditional behavioural and other mental health interventions. These children often present with complex trauma and attachment disruption histories. She works with biological families, foster families, day treatment programs and residential settings. Utilizing developmental, attachment and complex trauma focus has enabled Geraldine to effectively assist these families.

Licensing boards and professional organizations will grant Continuing Education credits for attendance at their discretion when participants submit the course outline and certificate.
