Research on the impact of early adversity and developmental trauma has shown that attachment, self-regulation and skill development is affected and this has a profound and widespread impact on children and youth. Increasingly, human resource teams and senior management are applying attachment theory to understand workplace relationships especially those between leaders and their direct reports. Internal working models developed in childhood through attachments with caregivers continue to influence behaviour in adulthood in both personal and workplace relationships. To provide effective leadership, leaders must understand issues such as staff “resistance” and “negativity” through a needs-based lens.

This training workshop offers a different view of traditional staff management relationships. It will benefit those hoping to improve relations and prevent common issues such as compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, high turnover, absenteeism, disability, etc. Leaders and senior teams will examine the impact of working with traumatized populations to discover what is needed to reduce the likelihood of negative impact. This training would be of great benefit to supervisors, managers, human resource staff directors and executive directors.

On the second day, we work together to take a deeper look at a number of topics. Participants will have the opportunity to practice new ideas and skills. This will be achieved through large and small group discussion, group activities and individual reflection.
