The early and pervasive experiences of trauma survivors impacts their view of self, their worldview and the ways in which they interact with others, particularly those perceived to be in a position of “authority”. In this workshop, participants will be exposed to different approaches and techniques for engaging with clients in order to implement trauma informed practices to improve treatment outcomes for survivors of trauma.

This workshop will also address the larger public health, community development and social service impacts of unrecognized complex trauma. Participants will explore the specific challenges raised by complex trauma, attachment and dissociation, in the intersection between clients and service providers in order to create the experience of help and support that we intend.

Who Should Attend: This workshop will be of interest to helping professionals in a wide range of roles from residential and shelter programs, front line service and clinical treatment. It would be appropriate for any and all helping professionals who provide services to a population which includes traumatised children, adults or families.

Outcomes/Objectifs d'apprentissage

• Describe the impact of complex early trauma on self, attachments, and worldview.
• Explain how impacts on brain development may cause certain behaviour which can be seen as an adaptive response to complex trauma;
• Use supportive strategies to engage and support clients and establish an environment that promotes stabilisation and safety
